Eisner Awards : les nominés de 2020 sont connus

Chaque année, habituellement à la San Diego Comic-Con, les Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards sont tenus et distribués aux meilleures oeuvres et meilleurs auteurs et artistes de l’industrie du comics. Alors que la San Diego Comic-Con a été annulée pour cette année suite à la pandémie du coronavirus, les Eisner Awards sont quant à eux maintenus et les organisateurs ont annoncé, plus tard qu’habituellement, les nominés pour le cru 2020.

Du côté des oeuvres, pas de gros éditeur parmi les nominés pour le meilleur numéro ou one-shot ou pour la meilleure histoire courte, alors que les prix avaient été obtenus l’année passée par des publications de Marvel et DC respectivement. Jeff Lemire voit deux de ses séries nominées pour le titre de meilleure mini-série avec Ascender et Sentient, notamment aux côtés du hit que fut Naomi de Brian Michael Bendis. Image Comics domine les nominations pour la meilleure série existante avec trois nominations, respectivement pour Bitter Root de David Walker, Crowded de Christopher Sebela et, déjà primée dans le passé, Criminal de Ed Brubaker ; Marvel réussit à obtenir deux nominations pour ses séries Daredevil de Chip Zdarsky et Immortal Hulk de Al Ewing tandis que DC porte la liste exceptionnellement à six nominés en y insérant The Dreaming de Simon Spurrier. Enfin, pour la meilleure nouvelle série, les nominations sont plus variées, voyant tout de même deux nominations pour BOOM! Studios avec les séries Something Is Killing the Children par James Tynion IV et Once & Future de Kieron Gillen. A côté de BOOM!, Dark Horse est présent avec Invisible Kingdom de G. Willow Wilson et deux des séries dont nous avions parlé justement comme séries à tenir à l’oeil se retrouvent nominées également : Doctor Doom de Christopher Cantwell chez Marvel et Undiscovered Country de Scott Snyder et Charles Soule chez Image.

Du côté des personnes, le meilleur auteur cette année gagnera le titre pour la première fois, c’est une certitude. On retrouve des noms connus des grosses écuries avec G. Willow Wilson, nominé pour Invisible Kingdom (nominé pour la meilleure nouvelle série) et Chip Zdarsky, nominé pour White Trees, Daredevil, Spider-Man: Life Story et l’un des nominés pour le meilleur comics digital, Afterlift. A côté de ceux-ci, on retrouve quatre autres noms montants avec Bobby Curnow (Ghost Tree, nominé pour la meilleure mini-série), MK Reed et Greg Means (Penny Nichols, nominé pour la meilleure publication pour ados), Lewis Trondheim (Stay et Maggie Garrison) et Mariko Tomaki, qui pourrait potentiellement devenir la deuxième femme à obtenir le prix avec une nomination grâce à Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass (nominé pour la meilleure publication pour ados), Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me (nominée dans la même catégorie) et Archie.

La moitié des nominés pour le titre de meilleur artiste (intérieur) sont issus de la bande dessinée franco-belge avec des nominations pour la canadienne Julie Rocheleau et les français Didier Cassegrain et Léa Mazé, nominés aux côtés notamment de Christian Ward, nominé comme son comparse G Willow Wilson pour Invisible Kingdom et aussi nominé dans la catégorie “meilleur artiste de couverture“. David Mack est aussi nominé dans les deux catégories pour ses dessins sur Cover de DC Comics. Avec une nomination pour des titres tels que Black Hammer, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D., Gideon Falls, et Silver Surfer Black, Dave Stewart pourrait tout simplement obtenir son dixième Eisner Award en tant que meilleur coloriste.
