Le mois de décembre est souvent synonyme de fêtes de fin d’année et, pour ce mois particulier, je ne peux que vous recommander The Marvel Nightmare Art of Peach Momoko ! Que ce soit pour l’offrir à quelqu’un ou se l’offrir soi-même, cet ouvrage qui regroupe de multiples dessins de la dessinatrice Peach Momoko en mettra plein les yeux !

Les Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards, prix les plus reconnus dans l’industrie du comics, sont décernés chaque année durant la San Diego Comics-Con. Cette année ne fera pas exception, même si la convention n’aura lieu qu’en novembre (nommée Special Edition), et aujourd’hui les nominés pour cette édition 2021 ont été révélés.
Du côté des oeuvres, à l’exception de la meilleure mini-série qui voit la moitié des nominés issus de DC Comics, on ne retrouve que très peu de nominés de DC ou Marvel, les deux éditeurs majeurs de comics, dans les autres catégories. Si on ne retrouve à peine un nominé par catégorie issu d’un éditeur majeur, c’est que, comme l’année passée, ce sont les éditeurs indépendants qui mènent la danse des nominations. Image Comics est en tête avec la majorité des nominations pour les catégories très prisées de la meilleure suite de série et la meilleure nouvelle série tout en obtenant aussi une nomination pour le meilleur numéro, le meilleur roman graphique – nouveauté et le meilleur roman graphique – réédition. Fantagraphics est ensuite le second éditeur avec le plus de nominations tandis que Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing et BOOM! Studios obtiennent eux aussi quelques nominations.
Nous sommes aussi fiers de pouvoir dire que sept séries qui figuraient dans nos séries de comics à tenir à l’oeil obtiennent une nomination. Stillwater de Chip Zdarsky et Ramon K. Pérez est ainsi nominée pour la meilleure suite de série ; Decorum de Jonathan Hickman et Mike Huddleston et Strange Adventures de Tom King, Mitch Gerads et Evan “Doc” Shaner sont toutes deux nominées pour la meilleure mini-série ; Black Widow de Kelly Thompson et Elba Casgrande et Crossover de Donny Cates et Geoff Shaw sont toutes deux nominées pour la meilleure nouvelle série ; The Other History of the DC Universe voit son premier numéro, écrit par John Ridley et dessiné par Giuseppe Camuncoli, nominé pour le meilleur numéro ; et enfin, The Department of Truth par James Tynion IV et Martin Simmonds est à la fois nominée pour la meilleure nouvelle série et la meilleure suite de série.
Du côté des personnes, gros changement de tendance par rapport à l’année passée : nous ne retrouvons aucune femme parmi les nominés pour le meilleur auteur. Chip Zdarsky est nominé pour la troisième année consécutive, cette année pour Stillwater (nominé pour la meilleure suite de série), Daredevil (elle aussi nominée pour la meilleure suite de série) et Fantastic Four/X-Men. A côté de Zdarsky, Ed Brubaker pourrait obtenir son quatrième titre de meilleur auteur après avoir déjà obtenu le sésame en 2007, 2008 et 2010. L’auteur se retrouve nominé cette année pour Pulp (nominé pour le meilleur roman graphique), Reckless et Friday (nominé pour le meilleur comics digital). Les autres nominés sont tous des auteurs superstars actuels : Matt Fraction, nominé pour Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, Adventureman (notre coup de coeur du mois de mai !), November et Sex Criminals ; Jonathan Hickman, nominé pour Decorum (nominé pour la meilleure mini-série), Giant-Size X-Men et X-Men ; Jeff Lemire, nominé pour Barbalien: Red Planet (nominée pour la meilleure mini-série), Black Hammer (meilleure nouvelle série en 2017), Colonel Weird: Cosmagog, The Question: The Deaths of Vic Sage, Family Tree et Gideon Falls (meilleure nouvelle série en 2019 et nominée cette année pour la meilleure suite de série) ; et James Tynion IV, nominé pour Something Is Killing the Children, Wynd, Batman, The Department of Truth (nominée dans 2 catégories) et Razorblades.
